Introduction to the SERP Tracker

Tracking map rankings is vital, but understanding your position on the standard Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) is just as important. The Local Dominator SERP Tracker monitors the first page of Google to give you a complete view of your organic visibility.

Unlike occasional spot-checks, this tool runs daily to monitor your keywords over time. It also tracks modern search features, specifically AI Overviews, ensuring you know exactly how often your business appears in AI-generated answers.

🎯 Who is this for?

SEO Agencies, Multi-Location Businesses, Solo Business Owners (SMBs)

📋 What you’ll need

  • A Google Business Profile OR a Website Domain
  • A Local Dominator subscription

⏳ Time to complete

Approximately 5-10 minutes.

Why Use a Daily SERP Tracker?

Search results fluctuate constantly. The SERP Tracker automates the monitoring process so you do not have to check manually. By running campaigns daily, the system builds a timeline of your performance, allowing you to see if your optimization efforts are improving your rankings.

Beyond standard links, this tool provides unique data on AI Overviews. It identifies if an AI summary was triggered for a keyword and whether your business was mentioned, giving you insight into this new traffic source.

How to Set Up a SERP Tracking Campaign

Setting up a campaign is straightforward. You can track a specific local listing or a general website.

Step 1: Select the Entity to Track

Click on Create Campaign. This will allow you to choose between two campaign types:

  • GBP: Choose this option to track a specific local business profile.
  • Domain: Choose this option to track a website URL directly.

Step 2: Configure Campaign Setup

Next, you need to configure the specific settings for your campaign to ensure accurate tracking.

  • Business Name: Enter your business name exactly as it appears online. Ensuring this name is correct is critical for accurate AI Search tracking.
  • Target Location: Select the specific city or area (e.g., Gilbert, Arizona) where you want to check rankings.
  • Device Settings: Choose whether you want to track rankings seen on a Desktop, Mobile device, or both.
  • Labels: You can also add labels to organize your campaign before clicking “Continue”.

Step 3: Select and Confirm Keywords

The final step is defining the exact terms you want to track.

  • Review Selected Keywords: The top section displays a numbered list of the keywords currently added to your campaign (e.g., “24/7 plumber Gilbert”).
  • Add High-Intent Suggestions: Click the bubbles to add them individually, or click Select all to add them all at once. You can also Refresh to generate new suggestions.
  • Launch Campaign: Check the Total credits count at the bottom right to confirm the cost, then click Start tracking to begin.

Modifying Your Campaign

Don’t worry about getting everything perfect on the first try—you are not locked into these initial settings.

  • Add More Keywords: It is easy to expand your tracking later. Simply click the blue + Add Keywords button found above your keyword list to enter new terms.
  • Edit or Delete: Need to adjust your settings? Click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner. From there, you can select “Edit Campaign” to make changes or “Delete Campaign” if you need to start over.

Analyzing Organic Ranking Metrics

The dashboard provides several charts to help you visualize your SEO progress.

Organic Position Distribution (OPD)

This chart displays how your keyword rankings are allocated across the first page of Google. You can compare two different dates to see how your visibility has shifted.

  • Tracking Improvements: As you improve rankings, you will see a significant difference in the distribution between the two dates.
  • Data Requirements: It is best to look at dates that are a few weeks apart to see meaningful trends.

Average Ranking Position

This metric calculates the average position for all your tracked keywords. The accompanying graph shows how this average moves up or down over time, giving you a quick health check of your overall campaign.

Keyword-Specific History

You can drill down into individual keywords to see exactly how their specific ranking has changed during the selected time period.

The AI Overview Summary is a specialized feature that tracks Google’s AI-generated responses. It categorizes your keywords into three specific scenarios:

  2. AI Overview Only: An AI overview was triggered for the keyword, but your business was not mentioned.
  3. No Overview: No AI overview was triggered for that search term.

You can also view the actual snippet from the overview to see the context of the result.

Gaining Competitor and Keyword Insights

The tool provides deep insights into the competitive landscape for every keyword you track.

  • Top SERP Players: View the “Top SERP Position” to see exactly which competitors are currently winning for a specific keyword.
  • Volume and Cost Per Click (CPC): Check the estimated monthly search volume and how expensive the keyword is. This helps you understand the value and difficulty of the terms you are targeting.
  • Filter by Keyword: Use the filter at the top of the dashboard to isolate a specific keyword. This allows you to get “laser focused” on the history and performance of a single term.

Exporting SERP Reports

You can currently export your tracking data via CSV for further analysis or reporting. Additional options, such as PDF exports and shareable links, are expected to be released in the near future.
